Job summary

Neel-Schaffer, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer – Water Resources to join our growing team. This role focuses on Hydrology and Hydraulics modeling, analysis, and project delivery for diverse water resources projects across multiple states.

The position may be based in our Jackson, Mississippi office or any other Neel-Schaffer office within the nine-state footprint. The ideal candidate is a motivated professional with strong technical, communication, and problem‑solving skills, ready to advance

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is required.
  • EIT certification or PE licensure or ability to obtain.
  • 4+ years of Water Resources/Hydrology/Hydraulics experience.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills; ability to work in a team.
  • Familiarity with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling software and GIS.

Responsibilities

  • Lead hydrology and hydraulics modeling, analysis, and project delivery.
  • Prepare technical analyses and deliverables for water resources projects.
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams across states.
  • Support fieldwork and project planning as needed.

The selected candidate will play a key role in Hydrology and Hydraulics (H&H) modeling, analysis, and project delivery for a diverse portfolio of water resources projects across multiple states.

As a member of Neel-Schaffer’s Water Resources Team, this individual will contribute to regional H&H projects while working alongside experienced engineers and industry experts to deliver innovative solutions for our clients and communities.

Typical projects include various types of roadway and transportation drainage, flood control, bridge hydraulic studies/designs, bridge scour analyses, storm water management studies, design/contract plans for flood control and storm water infrastructure projects. A limited amount of travel may be required for some projects.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • EIT certification or PE licensure or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • 4+ years of experience within Water Resources/Hydrology/ Hydraulics.
  • Strong communication, analytical skills, and ability to work in a team environment.Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are necessary with the ability to plan and conceptualize.
  • Knowledge of the latest hydrologic and hydraulic computer modeling programs, including GIS-based applications, 1D, 2D, dynamic/unsteady-flow -– e.g., HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS 1D/2D, PCSWMM, SMS, StormCAD, etc.
  • Experience with Microstation (and/or GEOPAK/OpenRoads), AutoCAD (and/or Civil 3D), and ArcGIS is preferred.
  • Ability to perform a limited amount of field work, including drainage investigations, drainage asset inventorying, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
