Job summary

Groundswell in the United States seeks an experienced Data Engineer to build secure, reliable data capabilities for a mission-focused platform that connects authoritative sources, operational data, and analytical services.

You will design and operate batch and streaming ETL/ELT pipelines, implement data quality and governance, manage access controls, and collaborate with engineers, data scientists, security teams, and stakeholders to deliver trusted data products for AI-enabled capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field.
• 5+ years of data engineering experience with production pipelines.
• Strong SQL for data modeling and analysis.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, or R.
• Experience with Airflow, Glue, Spark or equivalents.
• Experience with Jupyter and Python data libraries.
• Hands-on AWS and cloud data platforms experience.
• Data-quality frameworks, monitoring, and alerting experience.
• Knowledge of data security, access controls, governance.
• Experience with APIs and data formats like JSON/XML/CSV/Parquet.
• Ability to document decisions and collaborate with teams.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain Public Trust Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate batch and streaming ETL/ELT pipelines from diverse sources.
• Onboard new data sources with schemas, mappings, interfaces, and ownership.
• Build automated data-quality checks with monitoring and alerts.
• Create data transformations for operational apps, analytics, and ML workflows.
• Preserve data lineage, provenance, audit trails, and metadata.
• Implement secure data practices (least-privilege, encryption, secrets).
• Develop data models and curated datasets with well-documented interfaces.
• Automate deployments using IaC, CI/CD, and orchestrations.
• Optimize pipelines for scalability, performance, and cost across clouds.
• Troubleshoot distributed data systems and communicate root causes.
