Job summary

Maine Veterans’ Homes in the United States seeks a dedicated Cook to join our culinary team. This full-time role features a consistent every-weekend schedule, five 8-hour shifts, and predictable hours, allowing you to serve those who served our country while enjoying a meaningful routine.

You will prepare meals per planned menus and dietary needs, follow food safety guidelines, work with dietary staff on special diets, and keep the kitchen organized.

Qualifications

• Cooking experience in a healthcare, institutional, or commercial kitchen preferred.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Dependable, organized, and respectful demeanor.
• Ability to understand and respond to residents’ needs and inquiries in English is required.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to planned menus and dietary requirements.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection control guidelines.
• Ensure meals are appetizing, nutritious, and served on time.
• Work closely with dietary staff to accommodate special diets and resident preferences.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and food storage areas.
