Job summary

Maine Veterans’ Homes is seeking a full-time Cook to join our dining services team in Maine. You’ll prepare nutritious meals for residents following established menus and dietary requirements, with a daytime/evening schedule and no late-night hours.

This role offers a stable, weekday-friendly schedule and the opportunity to work in a meaningful healthcare setting. Prior cooking or food service experience is preferred, along with teamwork and strong English communication.

Qualifications

• Previous cooking or food service experience preferred.
• Knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and safe food-handling practices.
• Ability to follow recipes and menus.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Reliable attendance and a positive attitude.
• Experience cooking in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Requires proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to established menus and recipes.
• Follow appropriate food preparation, portioning, and presentation standards.
• Accommodate special diets and dietary restrictions as directed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation area.
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and infection-control procedures.
• Assist with meal service and ensure residents receive meals in a timely manner.
• Monitor food quality and freshness.
• Work collaboratively with dietary and nursing staff.
• Provide friendly, respectful service to Veterans and residents.
