Job summary

For The People (FTP) in Oakland, CA seeks a strategic Chief Operating Officer to scale operations, finance, HR, IT and legal compliance across multiple states. You will partner with the CEO and CSO to translate strategy into scalable systems, processes, and accountable teams.

The ideal candidate has 12+ years in senior operations leadership, deep knowledge of multi-state employment law, and a proven track record of growing a nonprofit.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of progressively responsible experience in operations, finance, or organizational leadership.
• Experience helping an organization grow in scale and complexity across multiple states.
• Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, or mission-driven environments is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Translate vision into organizational plans, structures, and resources.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning with executive team.
• Lead operations, HR, IT, and legal compliance across multi-state footprint.
• Strengthen risk management, governance, and internal controls.
