City of New York seeks a full-time Radio Repair Mechanic for the Bureau of Enterprise Technology to support installation, maintenance and repair of critical FDNY communications systems.

The role requires five years of relevant experience, or three years plus approved technical training, and a NY Driver License. An FCC radio license with radar endorsement may be required for certain assignments. The incumbent travels to various FDNY facilities and sites.

Qualifications

• Five years of full‑time satisfactory experience as radio repair mechanic or electronic technician.
• At least three years of experience plus trade/technical/vocational training to make up the remaining required experience; six months credit per year of approved trade/vocational school.
• Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in New York State; must be maintained.
• FCC General Radiotelephone Operator's License with radar endorsement may be required for some positions.

Responsabilités

• Install, repair, align, maintain, service, and tune radios, radars, microwaves, multiplexes, televisions and related equipment used in FDNY communications systems.
• Service land mobile and marine radio receivers/transmitters (analog and digital VHF/UHF/700–800 MHz), power and antenna systems, audio and public address systems.
• Diagnose, locate, isolate, and repair defects; troubleshoot and replace faulty components.
• Install electronic units and electrical elements in FDNY vehicles and apparatus.
• Use computers and radio programming software to program, configure, and update equipment.
• Maintain accurate service records and prepare technical reports in line with procedures.
