Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a systems engineer to contribute to defense programs within a digital engineering environment. You will help advance advanced air, missile, and multi-domain initiatives, translating concepts into requirements while leveraging models to evaluate options.

The role requires a BS in engineering/physics/mathematics, strong written and verbal communication, and eligibility for Interim Secret clearance (U.S. citizenship).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, physics, or mathematics.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date and meet eligibility for access to classified information, including U.S. citizenship.
  • Prefer at least 2 years of systems engineering experience, particularly on missile defense or command and control programs.
  • Experience in model-based systems engineering or digital engineering is a plus.
  • A current Top Secret clearance would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to systems engineering efforts on advanced air, missile, and multi-domain defense programs within a digital engineering development environment.
  • Collaborate on a highly motivated multidisciplinary team to develop and assess new capabilities.
  • Determine how to implement new capabilities in existing or emerging systems.
  • Use models and simulations to evaluate different solution options.
  • Translate approved concepts into detailed functional and performance requirements.
  • Present findings in technical meetings and program reviews with government, contractor, and research laboratory stakeholders.
