Job summary

KBR is seeking a Database Engineer to design, implement, and sustain GEMSTONE data services. You will collaborate with software, DevSecOps, and government stakeholders to ensure scalable, secure data management across cloud and on-prem environments.

The role emphasizes relational and NoSQL databases, containerized deployments with Kubernetes, and CI/CD practices within a DoD-focused program. Dayton-area onsite/hybrid work is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Software Eng or related field.
• Must be able to obtain DoD Secret clearance.
• 1–5 years of professional database experience.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, or MSSQL.
• Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Redis).
• Experience with distributed consensus and SQL query optimization.
• Familiarity with Linux and scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell).

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain relational and NoSQL database solutions.
• Support deployment of databases in Kubernetes containerized environments.
• Assist with schema design, data modeling, and query optimization.
• Develop automated provisioning, backup, and migration with IaC/CI/CD.
• Support data governance, access control, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Monitor database health, performance, and availability.
• Troubleshoot performance and connectivity issues.
• Assist engineering teams with database integration and API-driven access.
