Job summary

Woolpert is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer in the United States to lead Mission Critical Data Center HVAC projects. You will oversee scope and schedule, perform mechanical engineering tasks, mentor staff, and ensure code-compliant design deliverables while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes strong communication, technical proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• BA/BS or MA/MS in related field and 3+ years experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) certification required.
• Experience with building HVAC system design for commercial, mixed-use, healthcare, aviation, hospitality, and/or high-rise preferred.
• Experience designing sustainable building systems, including familiarity with LEED or other sustainability credentialing.
• Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Expert verbal and written communication abilities for both internal and external relationships.
• Experience with discipline related software applications and calculation tools.
• Substantial experience designing in Autodesk Revit 3-D modeling software and directing the preparation of construction documents.

Responsibilities

• Design and support Mission Critical HVAC and mechanical systems for data centers, including air-cooled and liquid-cooled systems.
• Model airflow and thermal performance using CFD to evaluate design scenarios.
• Perform cooling load calculations and equipment sizing for high-density IT environments.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to present HVAC solutions to clients and stakeholders.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews to ensure code-compliant, high-quality deliverables.
• Develop and modify mechanical/plumbing drawings and details per standards.
• Present concepts during design reviews and coordination meetings.
• Mentor team members and conduct training as needed.
