Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Technical Writer to own and drive documentation for sophisticated national-security programs. You will work with software engineers, systems engineers, leadership, SMEs and customer stakeholders to gather information and produce polished, mission-ready documentation.

This role offers a telework-friendly schedule but you must be local to Gaithersburg, MD to come in as needed. Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with the ability to pass a polygraph is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, CS, IT, Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of experience.
• Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation (system docs, SOPs, user guides, manuals, release docs).
• Experience working with technical teams to gather, document system or software information.
• Hands-on experience with Confluence and Jira or similar tools.
• Strong writing, editing, proofreading, and information-organization skills.
• Ability to research unfamiliar technical topics with subject-matter experts.

Responsibilities

• Develop, write, edit, and maintain technical documentation for GEOINT systems, software, and mission capabilities.
• Translate technical concepts into clear, audience-appropriate documentation.
• Collaborate with engineers, developers, architects, analysts and subject-matter experts to gather and validate information.
• Create and maintain system documentation, user guides, SOPs, release notes, and other program deliverables.
• Review and update existing documentation for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
• Interview technical personnel to translate information into usable documentation.
• Manage multiple documentation assignments and meet deadlines.
• Work within controlled and classified environments following security requirements.
• Follow established documentation standards and templates.
