Job summary

SunSteel LLC in Vancouver, WA is seeking a sales and estimating professional to conduct activities aligned with our mission, values, and departmental financial objectives.

You will review RFQs, develop bids, study drawings, coordinate with subcontractors, prepare proposals, and maintain ongoing contact with customers to ensure satisfaction. The role requires strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.

Qualifications

  • Four years of sales and/or estimating experience in steel industry.
  • Knowledge of building construction and steel design concepts from drawings.
  • Ability to use MS Windows and company software for pricing and marketing.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to present information to top management and groups.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community.
  • Ability to calculate figures and profit margins.
  • Ability to apply geometry and trigonometry.

Responsibilities

  • Meet departmental objectives set by the General Manager.
  • Review RFQs and determine if they are a good fit for SunMisc.
  • Compile lists of prospective customers and bid opportunities from various sources.
  • Review drawings and project schedules.
  • Assist in determining subcontractors and project scope.
  • Send RFIs when estimating has questions; assist in reviewing proposals.
  • Submit bids to customers and maintain contact through project lifecycle.
  • Explain quotes with exclusions and qualifications; monitor bid status.
  • Assist in quoting/estimating and takeoffs.
  • Coordinate between sales department and other units; resolve credit issues.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere and adapt to duties as assigned.

Reports to: SunMisc. General Manager Hourly: $28.00 -$35.00
Department: Sales and Estimating- SunMisc Location: Vancouver, WA

Job Summary

Conducts sales and marketing activities consistent with company mission, values, and departmental financial objectives.

Essential Functions
  • Meets the departmental objectives as established by the General Manager.
  • Review RFQ's when they come in. Determine if it is a good fit for SunMisc.
  • Compiles lists of prospective customers and projects available for bid, for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, dealers, original equipment manufacturers and other sources (i.e. established customers).
  • Review drawings and project schedules.
  • Help determine subcontractors.
  • Project scope.
  • Send RFI's when estimating has project questions.
  • Assists with reviewing and completing proposals.
  • Submits bids to the customer.
  • Maintains contact with customer throughout entire job to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Assists in problem solving and documents complaints or product deficiencies.
  • Interprets and explains quotes to customer including exclusions and qualifications.
  • Follows up on projects and bid status post bid.
  • Monitors activities and pricing levels of competitors.
  • Continually profiles each account to determine customer needs and identifies decision makers.
  • Contacts current contractors about any upcoming projects.
  • Assists in quoting/estimating when needed.

  • Assists Credit Manager in resolution of credit problems.
  • Coordinates liaison between sales department and other sales related units and departments.

  • Performs other job duties as assigned by general manager
Requirements
  • Four years of sales and or estimating experience in the steel industry.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building construction combined with steel design concepts presented on architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to use computer software (MS Windows) and Company software for designing, pricing and marketing.
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or the board of officers/directors.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest and profit margin.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic geometry and trigonometry.
  • Extensive understanding of verbal and written contract agreements as related to acceptable industry standards.
  • Ability to use AISC Manual for related material dimensions and properties.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge and history of acceptable selling practices in this specific industry and the ability to establish good rapport with customers.
Physical Demands

Regularly required to sit, occasionally stands and walks, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to talk or hear. Seldom lifts and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

General office and constant exposure to computer display. Occasional interaction with production employees in the fabrication facility.

Safety

In the office setting this is generally not a safety-sensitive position. However, you may be required to be on-site at a job site, in this case, you are required to follow all safety rules established by the contractor. A safety-sensitive position has been defined as one where the employee’s responsibilities impact the health and safety of themselves, coworkers and / or the public (in this case the end-user of our product). Most production and production support positions fall into this category. A pre-employment drug screening must be passed and continued random drugs screening will be administered if employment is offered - no exceptions.
