Placements24 is seeking an experienced Mining Project Manager to lead major development and operational projects in Welkom, South Africa. This senior role oversees from conception through commissioning, ensuring safety, efficiency and profitability while coordinating with geologists, engineers and operations teams.

You will manage scope, budgets and risks, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement across the mining portfolio.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in mining with 5+ years in project management.
• PMP or equivalent certification desirable.
• Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client requires an experienced Mining Project Manager to oversee key development and operational projects within their mining operations in Welkom . This senior role is crucial for managing the successful execution of projects from conception through to commissioning, ensuring efficiency, safety, and profitability. You will be responsible for coordinating with geologists, engineers, and operational teams to meet project goals and contribute to the sustainable growth of mining activities in the Free State region. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of mining processes and project leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and monitoring of mining projects, adhering to strict timelines and budgets.
• Manage project scope, resources, risks, and stakeholder communications effectively.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant mining regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
• Coordinate with internal departments and external contractors to optimize project delivery.
• Prepare detailed project reports, feasibility studies, and progress updates for senior management.

Requirements

• Relevant degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 5 years of experience in a project management capacity.
• Demonstrated success in managing large-scale mining projects, including exploration, development, or operational phases.
• Strong understanding of mining operations, equipment, and safety protocols.
• Excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• PMP or equivalent project management certification is highly desirable.
