Job summary

Michigan Paving and Materials is offering a summer internship in Monroe, MI for Mine Engineering, running mid-May through August 2027. Interns will gain hands-on exposure to field operations, planning, blasting, and topography mapping while working with operations crews.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a related college program, 18+, able to work outdoors, and prepared to complete MSHA New Miner Training and FAA Part 107 UAV certification as part of the program.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a college degree program related to mining or construction; minimum GPA 2.75.
• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.
• Must maintain a valid driver's license.
• Willing to obtain MSHA New Miner Training and FAA Part 107 UAV certification.
• Ability to work without close supervision.
• High ethical standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent internet research and evaluation skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with others to review maps and drilling logs for deposit assessment.
• Assists in long-range planning designs and data.
• Identify safety hazards and respond accordingly.
• Adhere to state and federal regulations (DOT, OSHA, MSHA).
• Operate sUAV for mine planning and mapping tasks.
• Quality control/assurance duties.
• Spend time in field operations for aggregates.
• Support monthly projections with operations teams.
• Shadow operations personnel to learn planning and objectives.
• Work with crews on blasting operations.
