Job summary

Kinross Fort Knox, located about 26 miles from Fairbanks, Alaska, is seeking a skilled heavy equipment mechanic to repair and maintain large diesel mining equipment such as shovels, loaders, graders, dozers and haul trucks.

You will diagnose electrical and hydraulic systems, perform welding and cutting as needed, and carry out preventative maintenance with proper safety and environmental practices. Shift work, overtime, and weekend availability are expected.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and relevant vocational training in mining/heavy equipment maintenance.
• Able to read/write instructions, perform basic math, and keep records.
• Solid knowledge of electrical, fuel, and cooling systems; capable of troubleshooting/repair.
• Willingness to work in adverse weather and shift work including overtime.
• Own hand tools up to ¾ inch drive.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems and diesel engines on equipment.
• Operate equipment to diagnose problems and verify repairs; ensure waste disposal.
• Prepare work orders and paperwork for parts and accounting.
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections; report findings.
• Weld as needed and perform fuel, lube, and component checks.
• Maintain safety, confidentiality and environmental compliance.
