Job summary

Hecla Mining Company is seeking a Mine Surveyor to perform underground and surface surveying, map development, and data collection using advanced instruments. You will work with engineers and geologists to scope surveys, ensure quality, and maintain survey records.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in survey work (underground mine experience preferred) with proficiency in Leica tools, Deswik and AutoCAD, plus a strong understanding of surveying principles. PLS is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associates degree in surveying or related field or equivalent.
• 2+ years’ survey experience; underground mine survey preferred.
• Solid understanding of surveying principles.
• Ability to produce data and summaries from survey equipment into reports and maps.
• PLS qualification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Meets with Mine Engineers, Geologists and Operations to determine scope of needed survey.
• Responsible for quality of survey and associated documents (maps, reports, survey records).
• Measures underground features with Leica total station & Nomad data collectors; collects as-built with MS50.
• Processes survey using Deswik and AutoCAD; handles point clouds with Leica Infinity and Cyclone.
• Delineates boundaries; prepares maps and as-built plans using 2D/3D software.
• Performs surface survey of TSF, monitoring wells, boundary areas and other facilities.
• Assists with other Mine Engineering tasks as needed.

Job description

The Mine Surveyor is responsible for underground and surface surveying, including measuring, lining out, and mapping underground features including development & production drifts, headings, infrastructure, and stopes, using a variety of survey instruments and computer databases.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Meets with Mine Engineers, Geologists and Operations to determine scope of needed survey.
• Responsible for quality of survey and associated documents (maps, reports, survey records)
• Measures underground features such as detail, line and grade using Leica total station & Nomad data collectors. Collects detail as-built survey using robotic total station (MS50) with point cloud survey.
• Processes survey using Deswik software and AutoCAD software, and pointclouds using Leica Infin i ty and Leica Cyclone.
• Delineates boundaries; prepares maps and as-built plans using 2D, 3D and other computer-based programs.
• Performs surface survey of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF), monitoring wells, permit/claim boundaries, and other surface facilities as needed.
• Assists with other areas of Mine Engineering as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Associates degree in surveying or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years’ experience in survey work; Underground mine survey experience preferred.
• Good understanding of surveying principles.
• The ability to use survey equipment to produce data, analyze and summarize into computer generated reports and maps is required.
• PLS qualification preferred.
