Job summary

Teck is seeking a Mine Shift Supervisor for the Red Dog Mine to direct shift operations and ensure safe, efficient use of manpower and equipment. The role involves a two-weeks-on, two-weeks-off rotation and on-site responsibilities.

Reporting to the Mine Operations General Supervisor, you will coordinate production activities, enforce company safety standards, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve production and grade objectives within the Operating Plan.

Qualifications

• Seven (7) years of open pit mining experience.
• One (1) year of lead-hand Supervisory experience.
• Working knowledge of MSHA Standards.
• Excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to train others.

Responsibilities

• Direct the shift operation to attain safety and production objectives.
• Enforce safe working procedures and health programs per policy and MSHA standards.
• Coordinate, schedule and monitor load haul mining activities per shift and optimize costs.
• Communicate with Engineering, Geology, Maintenance and Mill Operations to meet plan objectives.
• Lead training and development, participate in hiring, discipline and terminations as required.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Mine Operations General Supervisor, the Mine Shift Supervisor directs the shift operation of the Red Dog Mine to attain established objectives through the safe, efficient use of manpower and equipment.

Rotation schedule will be two weeks on site following two weeks off site

Responsibilities

• Protect the safety and health of employees by enforcing safe working procedures and health programs in accordance with Company policy and the appropriate code of federal regulations as outlined by the Mine Safety and Health Administration
• Ensure the Mine Operation complies with all environmental regulations
• Effectively manage the operating crews by following, enforcing and administering company policies in a fair and equitable manner
• Effectively respond to crew concerns where possible and communicate issues that are outside your area of control
• Coordinate, schedule and monitor load haul mining activities on a shift basis and to motivate his/her crew to safely and efficiently meet the production objectives at minimum cost
• Communicate effectively with the Engineering, Geology, Maintenance and Mill Operations departments in providing information and coordinating activities to ensure development, production, and grade objectives are realized as defined in the Operating Plan
• Complete the necessary production and statistical reporting requirements accurately and in a timely fashion to ensure that the proper flow of information is maintained
• Oversee the development and training of personnel to ensure safe work practices and conditions, productive employees and to participate in hiring, discipline and terminations, as required, in accordance with Company policy. Close cooperation with the Mine Trainers is required to achieve uniform goals and standards of operator capabilities
• Represent and support the Company in its goals and objectives through regular crew meetings, safety meetings and by monitoring and changing crew performance
• Act in the capacity of the Mine Operations General Supervisor during absences, as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Seven (7) years of open pit mining experience
• One (1) year of lead-hand Supervisory experience
• Working knowledge of MSHA Standards
• Excellent interpersonal abilities, self-motivated, with a willingness to train others
• Highly motivated team player
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly spreadsheet, word processing and presentation applications
• Problem solving skills and decision-making abilities
• Proven and exemplary leadership skills
