Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, is seeking a Mill Mechanic VI to maintain and repair heavy industrial equipment at Red Dog Mine. The role reports to the Mill Maintenance Supervisor and offers an even rotational schedule with on-site/off-site rotations, plus fly-in/fly-out access.

The ideal candidate will be a Journeyperson Millwright with extensive maintenance experience, strong safety practices, and the ability to work with a variety of trades on site in Alaska.

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Millwright or 7+ years in heavy industrial maintenance.
  • Experience with pumps, conveyors, welding, alignment, rigging, and mills.
  • Ability to read engineered drawings.
  • Strong safety standards.
  • Teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader and comply with safety rules.
  • Install, align, dismantle and move machinery per drawings and plans.
  • Operate cranes, jacks and tractors to position equipment.
  • Inspect machinery; maintain hydraulic, pneumatic and PLC systems.
  • Dismantle, assemble and align equipment and foundations.
  • Perform lubrication, seal replacement and preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinate with operators, engineering and trades using Maintenance Order System.
  • Keep tools and workspace clean and orderly.
  • Identify hazards via daily inspections and safety training.
  • Adhere to policies and perform other duties as assigned.

Role Overview

Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for a Mill Mechanic VI. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career-oriented individual to fill this role.

Reporting to the Mill Maintenance Supervisor

Rotational Schedule will be an even rotation, with an option for 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site, or 3 weeks on-site and 3 weeks off-site.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Install, align, take apart and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools
  • Operate hoisting and lifting devices, such as cranes, jacks and tractors, to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery
  • Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and find irregularities and malfunctions; install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controls
  • Dismantle machines, assembles, installs and aligns equipment and machinery such as shafting, conveyors, and tram rails; constructs foundations for machines; a variety of equipment may be used to make customized parts or to complete repairs
  • Complete routine tasks such as lubrication of machinery, seal replacement, cleaning of parts during an overhaul and preventative maintenance
  • Interact with a variety of employees on the property such as operators, engineering, trades and operating supervision on methods, procedures and hazards in order to coordinate the services of other trades and service personnel in the planning of their portion of the job; prioritizing work on a daily basis utilizing the Maintenance Order System; estimating material costs and labour hours on jobs and troubleshooting plant equipment
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and kept in a clean and orderly condition
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of environmental risks and hazards as well as complies with safety policies and procedures (MSHA and Red Dog EMS training) and ensures daily workplace inspections are done in order to accurately identify and correct workplace hazards
  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures and advises coworkers and visitors of such policies and procedures as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Journeyperson Millwright or have seven (7) or more years’ or proven experience in heavy industrial maintenance which includes pumps, conveyors, welding, alignment, heavy rigging, compressors, crushers and sag and ball mills
  • Capability of working with engineered drawings
  • Adhere to high safety standards
  • Work day, afternoon, or night shifts as required
  • Team player and able to communicate well with others
  • Highly motivated and have ability to perform tasks with limited direction
  • Work outdoors with a potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
  • Perform labor intensive work when required
  • Ability to obtain a valid driver license is desirable
  • Basic computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft office applications
