Job summary

Rio Tinto’s Kennecott mine near Salt Lake City, Utah, is seeking a Mine Controller to coordinate surface mining activities in real-time. The role focuses on fleet management, plan execution, and safe production with shift-based supervision and cross-functional collaboration.

The Mine Controller will work in a high-tech control room, utilize MineStar to optimize haulage, track performance, and ensure data integrity while maintaining strong safety practices and effective communication with

Qualifications

• Commitment to safety of self and team.
• Experience in surface mining operations, ideally load and haul.
• Experience in control room operations or dispatch roles.
• Experience using Fleet Management Systems, preferably MineStar.
• Strong understanding of truck and shovel operations.
• Ability to make decisions in fast-paced environments.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• High attention to detail and problem-solving capability.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and control real-time mining activities using MineStar Fleet Management System.
• Execute and adjust daily and shift plans to meet safe production targets.
• Optimize haulage performance by managing equipment allocation and minimizing delays.
• Coordinate material movement to align with the mine plan.
• Maintain accurate fleet data and system integrity in MineStar.
• Communicate with field operators, supervisors, and stakeholders to ensure smooth operations.
• Respond to disruptions, emergencies, and downtime to maintain safe production flow.
• Track performance metrics and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain shift logs, reports, and operational records.
