Job summary

SMS group USA in Valparaiso, IN is seeking a well-experienced industrial Mechanic / Millwright to join our workshop, where you refurbish and repair unique blast-furnace equipment and support customers with precision assembly and testing.

The role requires 5+ years of refurbishment experience, proficiency with hand and power tools, ability to read prints, and knowledge of crane and rigging techniques. We offer a stable, historically 150+ year-old company with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years experience; 10+ years preferred in refurbishment/reconditioning in job shop or similar
• Ability to disassemble and reassemble mechanical parts
• Experience with hand and power tools
• Ability to read prints and drawings
• Knowledge of overhead crane and rigging techniques
• Experience with heavy mechanical assemblies preferred
• Knowledge of machining, fabrication, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and piping systems preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Vocational or high school education; specialized training or on-the-job experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical duties on equipment as instructed
• Disassemble, repair/recondition with precision, assemble and test equipment
• Fabricate lightweight apparatus or structures for maintenance
• Coordinate with project management, engineers, and staff to complete projects
• Maintain cleanliness and perform maintenance tasks as required
• Provide additional support where needed
