Job summary

SMS group Inc in Valparaiso, IN is seeking an experienced Millwright to join our workshop. This role focuses on the refurbishment and repair of blast furnace equipment with a strong emphasis on quality and safety.

You will perform mechanical duties, disassemble and recondition parts, fabricate lightweight structures, and collaborate with project teams. A minimum of 5 years' experience is preferred, with familiarity with cranes, lifts, and machining.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience with refurbishment/reconditioning in a job shop or similar environment.
• Knowledge of disassembly and assembly of mechanical parts.
• Experience with hand and power tools.
• Ability to read prints and drawings.
• Knowledge of crane and rigging techniques.
• Education: Vocational or High School; specialized training or on-the-job experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical duties on equipment as instructed.
• Disassemble, repair/recondition with precision, assemble and test equipment.
• Fabricate lightweight apparatus or structures used in equipment maintenance.
• Interface with project management, engineers, and staff to complete projects.

At our SMS group Valparaiso workshop, we refurbish and repair unique and specialized blast furnace equipment for our customers. We are currently looking for a experienced skilled mechanic to join our team, learn our equipment and continue to grow with us.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical duties on equipment as instructed
• Disassemble, repair/recondition with precision, assemble and test equipment
• Perform fabrication of lightweight apparatus and/or structures used in the maintenance of equipment
• Interface with project management, engineers, technical personnel and other staff as needed to complete projects.
• Perform housekeeping and maintenance activities as required
• Provide any additional support where needed

Supervisory Responsibilities

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of experience (10+ years preferred) with refurbishment / reconditioning on parts in a job shop or similar environment is required
• Knowledge of and prior experience in disassembly and assembly of mechanical parts is required
• Knowledge of and prior experience in the use of hand and power tools is required
• Ability to read prints and drawings is required
• Knowledge of and prior experience in overhead crane and lift trucks, including hoisting and rigging techniques is required
• Ability to follow step-by-step procedures with precision and accuracy is required
• Experience with heavy mechanical assemblies is preferred
• Knowledge of machining and fabrication methods preferred
• Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic & piping systems preferred
• Knowledge of electrical systems (wiring motors and small panels) preferred
• Understanding of blast furnace equipment is a plus
• Candidate must have good interpersonal and communication skills
• Education Requirements: Vocational or High School; Specialized Technical Training and/or on the job experience (preferred)

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

• Remain in a standing or walking position for extended periods of time
• Stoop, kneel, crouch and bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception

Schedule

• Full-Time, 8-hour shift
• Monday to Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm, or 7:00am - 3:30pm with 30 minutes for lunch
