SMS group East Pittsburgh workshop refurbishes and repairs unique equipment for customers. We seek an experienced, skilled mechanic to join the team, learn our equipment and grow with us.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of refurbishment/reconditioning experience.
• Ability to read prints and drawings.
• Proficient with hand and power tools.
• Experience with overhead cranes and rigging preferred.
• Education: Vocational or high school; specialized technical training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical duties on equipment as instructed.
• Disassemble, repair/recondition, assemble and test equipment.
• Fabricate lightweight apparatus/structures for maintenance of equipment.
• Interface with project management, engineers and other staff to complete projects.
• Perform housekeeping and maintenance activities and provide additional support as needed.

At our SMS group East Pittsburgh workshop, we refurbish and repair unique and specialized equipment for our customers. We are currently looking for a experienced skilled mechanic to join our team, learn our equipment and continue to grow with us.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical duties on equipment as instructed
• Disassemble, repair/recondition with precision, assemble and test equipment
• Perform fabrication of lightweight apparatus and/or structures used in the maintenance of equipment
• Interface with project management, engineers, technical personnel and other staff as needed to complete projects.
• Perform housekeeping and maintenance activities as required
• Provide any additional support where needed

Supervisory Responsibilities

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Qualifications

3-5 years of experience with refurbishment / reconditioning on parts in a job shop or similar environment is requiredKnowledge of and prior experience in disassembly and assembly of mechanical parts is requiredKnowledge of and prior experience in the use of hand and power tools is requiredAbility to read prints and drawings is preferred but not required

Ability to follow step-by-step procedures with precision and accuracy is required

• Knowledge of and prior experience in overhead crane and lift trucks, including hoisting and rigging techniques is preferred but required

• Experience with heavy mechanical assemblies is preferred
• Knowledge of machining and fabrication methods preferred
• Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic & piping systems preferred
• Knowledge of electrical systems (wiring motors and small panels) preferred
• Understanding of blast furnace equipment is a plus
• Candidate must have good interpersonal and communication skills
• Education Requirements: Vocational or High School; Specialized Technical Training and/or on the job experience (preferred)

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to do the following:

• Remain in a standing or walking position for extended periods of time
• Stoop, kneel, crouch and bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
