Job summary

Merric Millwork and Seating is seeking a Drafter/Designer to create cabinet and millwork shop drawings from architectural blueprints. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of custom cabinet manufacturing and design, and will interact with project managers, estimators, purchasing, installers, and shop personnel to prepare precise, fabrication-ready drawings.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of millwork/cabinet drafting experience in CAD.
• Knowledge of AWI standards is required; IDA is preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of Cabinet Vision and/or AutoCAD/2D.
• Thorough knowledge of cabinet layout and millwork fabrication methods.

Responsibilities

• Read and understand blueprints, sketches, and specifications to produce precise shop drawings for custom millwork and casework.
• Develop and prepare fabrication-ready drawings that align with design intent and manufacturing standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and shop personnel to ensure design feasibility and accuracy.
• Prepare cut lists, BOMs, and other documentation for manufacturing and assembly operations.
• Proficiently use AutoCAD and be familiar with Microvellum to draft and modify drawings.
• Generate approval drawings for client sign-off before production.
• Apply AWI standards and best practices in drafting.
• Consolidate drawings into a complete submittal package for client approval.
• Participate in Bluebeam Studio collaboration for real-time updates.
• Revise drawings based on field measurements and redlines.

Position Overview

Drafter/Designer will create cabinet and millwork shop drawings from architectural blueprints. Ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of custom cabinet manufacturing and design. Routinely interact with project managers, estimator, purchasing, installers and shop personnel in preparation cabinet manufacturing and installation.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Read and understand blueprints, sketches, and specifications to produce precise shop drawings for custom millwork and casework.
• Develop and prepare detailed, fabrication-ready drawings that align with design intent and manufacturing standards.
• Work closely with project managers, engineers, and shop personnel to ensure design feasibility and accuracy.
• Prepare cut lists, bills of materials (BOMs), and other documentation for manufacturing, machining, and assembly operations.
• Proficiently use AutoCAD and be familiar with Microvellum or equivalent tools to draft and modify drawings.
• Generate approval drawings to be reviewed and signed off by clients before production.
• Apply AWI standards and best practices in millwork and casework drafting.
• Collaborate with Project Managers (PMs) to identify discrepancies, missing details, and required resolutions before drafting begins.
• Consolidate all drawings into a complete submittal package for client approval.
• Participate in Bluebeam Studio collaboration with PMs, drafters, and field teams for real-time updates.
• Revise drawings based on field measurements and redlines to maintain accuracy.
• And other duties / responsibilities as assigned based on the needs of the company.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Proficiency with AutoCAD and familiarity with Microvellum, is required.
• Strong understanding of millwork construction techniques, materials, and industry best practices.
• Attention to detail with the ability to spot and resolve potential design issues before production.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the capability to interpret complex designs and translate them into accurate, buildable plans.
• Possess excellent communication skills and be able to effectively collaborate with designers, engineers, PMs, and clients.
• Industry Experience – Background in millwork and casework drafting with knowledge of AWI standards preferred.

Education and Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of millwork/cabinet drafting experience required in CAD.
• Advanced knowledge of Cabinet Vision and/or Auto Cad/ 2D.
• Knowledge of AWI standards is required and Individual Drafting Accreditation (IDA) is preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of cabinet layout, millwork fabrication methods and materials.
