Position Overview
Florida Coastal Paving is seeking an experienced Mill Operator to join our growing construction team. The Mill Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating asphalt milling equipment on roadway, parking lot, and commercial paving projects throughout Florida.
The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of experience operating milling equipment and a strong understanding of milling operations, grades, depths, equipment capabilities, and jobsite safety.
This position requires an experienced, dependable operator who can work effectively with the milling and paving crews to maintain production and prepare surfaces for successful paving operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate asphalt milling machines and related heavy equipment on commercial, roadway, and parking lot projects.
- Set up and operate milling equipment to achieve required depth, grade, slope, and surface specifications.
- Perform full-depth and variable-depth milling as required by project specifications.
- Maintain consistent milling depths and transitions around structures, curbs, drainage areas, tie-ins, and existing pavement.
- Coordinate with ground personnel, truck drivers, laborers, foremen, and other equipment operators to maintain safe and efficient production.
- Monitor milling patterns and finished surfaces to ensure work meets project specifications and quality standards.
- Perform daily pre-operation and post-operation equipment inspections.
- Identify equipment problems and communicate maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with routine cleaning, maintenance, and care of milling equipment.
- Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, equipment, traffic, utilities, and other jobsite hazards.
- Follow established traffic-control procedures when working in or adjacent to active roadways.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Assist the crew with additional duties as needed to successfully complete projects.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of asphalt milling equipment operating experience preferred.
- Previous experience in asphalt paving, roadway construction, sitework, or a related heavy civil construction environment strongly preferred.
- Experience operating commercial milling machines and understanding milling controls and grade systems.
- Ability to accurately maintain specified milling depths and grades.
- Strong understanding of safe heavy-equipment operating practices.
- Ability to perform basic equipment inspections and recognize potential mechanical issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively with foremen, ground personnel, truck drivers, and other operators.
- Dependable attendance and ability to report to jobsites on time.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and extended hours as project schedules require.
- Ability to travel to project locations as required.
