You arrive ready for your rotating 8-hour shift, gear up with PPE - hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, metatarsal boots, and a respirator when needed - and head to your assignment. Some days you're supporting a producing unit with hand tools, pneumatic tools, gauges, oxygen lances, power-actuated tools, and torches. Other days you're moving materials, cleaning and prepping areas, or assisting with equipment inspections and basic maintenance. Conditions vary - hot, cold, wet, greasy, dirty, and noisy - and you may work near molten metal. You stay alert, follow procedures, and keep production moving safely.
After brief on-the-job training, you'll progress to a Utility Technician assignment operating material-handling equipment such as overhead and mobile cranes (various sizes and types), tractors, trucks, dozers, loaders, boom trucks, and feeders.
