Job summary

University of New Haven seeks a Manager of Military & Veteran Affairs to oversee comprehensive, student-centered support for military-affiliated students from inquiry through graduation.

The role leads the OMVA, manages the Veteran Center and VA Work Study, and collaborates campus-wide to strengthen recruitment, retention, and community-building initiatives, with travel and non-traditional hours as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 2–4 years of relevant experience.
• Prior service in the United States Armed Forces.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel.
• Availability to work non-traditional hours, including occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
• Knowledge of and appreciation for the experiences and needs of military and veteran communities.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to safeguard sensitive and private information and maintain confidentiality.
• Good judgment, tact, diplomacy, discretion, reliability, flexibility, and follow-through.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and customer-service skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate across departments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
• Experience in a higher education environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, and state requirements.
• Submit enrollment certifications for VA education benefits as the primary School Certifying Official.
• Assist students with benefit eligibility and enrollment processes across VA, DOD, and University systems.
• Monitor legislative, regulatory, and policy changes affecting military-affiliated students and communicate updates.
• Disburse Veterans Emergency Loan Fund under Bursar supervision.
• Serve as focal contact from inquiry through graduation for military-affiliated students.
• Recruit and support enrollment for military-affiliated students and participate in related events.
• Partner with Student Success to orient students and monitor academic progress.
• Coordinate outreach with One Stop Office to support all military-affiliated students.
• Maintain knowledge of Admissions, Advising, Financial Aid, Bursar, and Registrar operations.
• Manage the Office of Military & Veteran Affairs and the campus Veteran Center.
• Recruit, hire, supervise, and support VA Work Study participants.
• Lead as Service to Scholar Program Director.
• Co-chair the Veterans Advisory Board and coordinate meetings.
• Plan Salute to Service Awards Banquet.
• Develop and deliver University-sponsored Green Zone Training.
• Distribute the OMVA newsletter to military-affiliated students and the campus community.
• Manage program budgets and related resources.
