Job description

Nothing tests religious beliefs more than the various situations our Airmen face throughout their service. Providing pastoral care ministry and counseling to those of faith and those of no faith, Air Force chaplains are religious ministry professionals who support the spiritual resilience of our Airmen worldwide. As spiritual leaders, chaplains are relied upon for faith and personal guidance, and they also advocate for our Airmen by consulting with leadership on moral, ethical, and quality-of-life issues.

Responsibilities include:

1. Managing and supporting spiritual centers on military installations globally
2. Conducting worship services, liturgies, and rites
3. Advising leadership on spiritual, religious, ethical, moral, morale, and quality-of-life issues
4. Supervising and managing chapel personnel, operations, and religious programs

Qualifications, Education, and Training

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with at least 120 semester hours
• Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree with no less than 72 hours
• Two years of religious ministry leadership experience
• Eligible denominations include Christian Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, Orthodox Christian, Roman Catholic, and other faith groups
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Receive an Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a DoD-recognized endorser
• Meet medical and physical fitness standards
• No convictions by courts-martial or civilian courts (except minor infractions)
• No disciplinary action for unprofessional or inappropriate relationships, financial irresponsibility, domestic violence, or child abuse
• Be commissioned by age 40 (age waivers may be available)
