Providing pastoral care ministry and counseling to Airmen of faith and no faith, Air Force chaplains support the spiritual resilience of personnel worldwide. As spiritual leaders, they offer faith and personal guidance, advocate for Airmen, and advise leadership on moral, ethical, and quality-of-life issues.

• Advise leadership on spiritual, religious, ethical, moral, morale, and quality-of-life issues

Qualifications, Education, and Training

• Required Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with at least 120 semester hours

Master of Divinity or equivalent theological degree with no less than 72 hours from an accredited institution.

• Pastoral Ministry Experience: Two years of religious leadership

Eligible denominations include Christian Protestant, Muslim, Jewish, Orthodox Christian, Roman Catholic, and other faith groups.

• Qualifications: Must be a U.S. citizen

Receive an Ecclesiastical Endorsement from a DoD-recognized endorser.
Meet medical and physical standards.
No convictions by courts-martial or civilian courts (except minor infractions).
No disciplinary actions for unprofessional relationships, financial irresponsibility, domestic violence, or child abuse.
Be commissioned by age 40; age waivers may be available.

• Personnel Status: Officer — commissioned as an officer upon joining, with rank based on education and experience.
