Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Migration z/OS SME to lead mainframe z/OS environments remotely in the United States. You will install, customize, test, implement and support ISV products, use SMP/E, and coordinate with vendors.

You will provide 24/7 coverage and mentor junior DBAs. The role requires 8+ years of Mainframe z/OS experience, familiarity with JES2/JES3, TSO, RACF, CFRM policies, Rexx, z/OS Sysplexes, and strong documentation and communication skills.

Job description

Migration z/OS SME

location : Remote

• 8+ year experience in managing Mainframe z/OS Systems.
• Install, customize, test, implement, document, and support independent software vendor (ISV) products as required (this includes user modifications that require customization for release levels or related to site requirements) and work with the vendors on problems and resolution
• Use IBM SMP/e to successfully receive and apply z/OS software and other related software on an IBM Mainframe. This includes interpreting SMP/e output messages to resolve software installation issues and requirements, use SMP/e panels to manage software installation packages, define SMP/e required parameters to successfully install and maintain OS and associated software products.
• Experience working with z/OS, z/OSMF, JES2, JES3, SMP/E, TSO, IOCP/HCD, RACF, Rexx, z/OS Sysplexes and CFRM policies.
• The candidate will be required to provide production off hour coverage (if necessary) and support periodic weekend implementations
• Create, populate, secure, and troubleshoot IBM z/OS USS (UNIX Systems Services) file systems and mount points. Manage the USS environment on an IBM z/OS mainframe platform.
• Create/update and debug z/OS parameters using PARMLIB
• Plan, create and update accurate, detailed documentation for IBM z/OS mainframe platform software/hardware installation/upgrades
• Use IBM z/OS mainframe communications products, including Virtual Telecommunications Access Method (VTAM), Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
• Ability to provide 24/7/365 software support. This would include on-call support during off-hours.
• Provide training, technical guidance, and mentoring to junior DBAs and team members.
• ISV products experience such as BMC products, SFTP, FDS, PKZip, Precisely Steam weaver, Finalist, Zena, LRS and others as required.
• Demonstrate strong communication, documentation, coordination, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently as well as within a team.

The Salary for this position will be 119,000 and 135000 yearly depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
