Job summary

TISTA Science and Technology Corporation is seeking a Senior System Engineer to join our remote-capable mainframe team. You will install, configure, and maintain IBM z/OS, SMP/E, JCL, and related subsystems, ensuring high availability and reliable performance in a mission-critical environment.

You’ll collaborate with application teams, operations, and vendors to troubleshoot complex issues, implement PTFs, plan IPLs, and support on-call rotations while documenting configurations and procedures

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with IBM z/OS internals and system components.
• Proficient in SMP/E for software installation and maintenance.
• Experience with JCL, REXX, SAS, COBOL, SMP/E, and TSO/ISPF.
• Familiarity with IBM subsystem tools such as BMC MAINVIEW, CMF, AmiOps automation.
• Experience with Phoenix EJES toolset.
• Experience with Innovation FDREPORT IAM.
• Experience with Chicago Soft QwickRef.
• Knowledge of IEBCOPY/IDCAMS/IEBGENER.
• Experience with system IPLs, dump analysis, and problem determination.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain IBM mainframe operating systems, including IBM z/OS.
• Perform installation, upgrades, and maintenance of ISV (Independent Software Vendor) products using tools such as SMP/E.
• Customize system parameters, libraries, and subsystems to meet organizational requirements.
• Apply maintenance (PTFs, APARs) and perform system IPL planning and execution
• Troubleshoot system issues, analyze dumps, and resolve software-related problems.
• Support storage management processes including DASD, SMS, and DFSMS.
• Maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and changes.
• Collaborate with application teams, operations, and vendors for problem resolution and enhancements.
• Participate in on-call rotation and support after-hours maintenance windows.
• May require after-hours support for system maintenance and upgrades.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with IBM z/OS internals and system components.
• Strong experience with SMP/E for software installation and maintenance.
• Strong experience with JCL, REXX, SAS, COBOL, SMP/E, and TSO/ISPF.
• Strong experience with BMC – MAINVIEW, CMF, BMC AmiOps automation.
• Strong experience with Phoenix – EJES.
• Strong experience with Innovation – FDR, DSF, FDREPORT, IAM.
• Strong experience with Chicago Soft – QwickRef.
• Knowledge of system utilities such as IEBCOPY, IDCAMS, IEBGENER.
• Experience with system IPLs, dump analysis, and problem determination.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with additional IBM subsystems such as: CICS.
• Familiarity with automation and scheduling tools.
• Knowledge of disaster recovery and high availability configurations.
• Experience with mainframe performance tuning and capacity planning.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Education

• Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, other engineering or technical dicipline, or equivalent PLUS10 Years of experience.
• Ten (10) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education.

Clearance

• The ability to pass a Tier 4/HIGH Background Investigation.

Location

• Remote, USA
• Monday - Friday (7:30 AM - 4:00 PM CST).

Pay Range

• The pay for this position ranges from $92,730 to $102,500.
• The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
• Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation, such as bonuses.
