Job summary

Office of Workforce Development in Lafayette, LA is seeking a Workforce Development Specialist 4 to serve as a Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker Outreach Worker. You will inform MSFWs about workforce services and rights, and encourage visits to American Job Centers for employment, training, and supportive services.

The role collaborates with Wagner Peyser staff and AJC managers; ideal candidates have extensive experience in workforce development and strong outreach skills, in a state government

Qualifications

• Six years of experience in workforce development, administrative services, or social services.
• Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years in workforce development, administrative services, or social services.
• Bachelor's degree plus three years of experience in workforce development, administrative services, or social services.
• Master's degree plus two years of experience in workforce development, administrative services, or social services.
• EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience toward the six years of full-time work experience in any field.

Responsibilities

• Conduct outreach to identify and engage MSFWs not reached through normal American Job Center intake activities.
• Assist MSFWs with applications for Employment Services and referrals to employment opportunities.
• Provide information on farmworker rights and the ES and Employment-Related Law Complaint System.
• Assist in preparing and referring employment service and employment-related law complaints.
• Refer individuals to career, training, and supportive services available through workforce partners.
• Assist with scheduling appointments and arranging transportation to American Job Centers or other service providers, as needed.
• Document outreach activities and services provided in accordance with program requirements.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
