Job summary

INTERA Incorporated seeks a Principal Water Resources Scientist/Engineer to expand its Midwest Water Resources and Supply practice across Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and beyond. The role blends client development with hands-on technical leadership, delivering complex water supply, infrastructure, regulatory, and resource-management projects.

The successful candidate will lead relationships with utilities, authorities, and industrial clients while guiding major proposals,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, Water Resources, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• Typically 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in water resources engineering, water supply development, utility planning, infrastructure, or related consulting services.
• Established professional relationships and regional market experience in one or more Midwest states (OH, MI, IN, IL).
• Proven ability to generate opportunities while leading and contributing to project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategies to expand INTERA’s Water Resources and Supply practice across target Midwest markets.
• Lead capture planning, client positioning, proposal development, and contract negotiations to secure new work.
• Mentor project managers, engineers, scientists, and emerging leaders within a growing regional team.
• Provide senior technical review of reports, designs, and regulatory documents; ensure technical quality and client satisfaction.
