Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Ohio is seeking an Assistant Electrical Designer to support planning, drafting and design activities within a multi-disciplinary project team. You will assist with electrical schematics, grid layouts, lighting and power system designs, and prepare proposals and construction documents.

You will work with CAD tools, learn company standards, and collaborate with project managers, engineers and designers to deliver accurate drawings on schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or a related field with 2 years of related experience.
• Or Associate's Degree with 3+ years of related experience.
• Or 4 years of progressive detailing and design experience.
• Strong understanding of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel.
• Ability to work with 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
• Basic knowledge in design, calculations and design systems.
• Ability to collaborate with PMs, Engineers and Designers in a multi-discipline team.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing electrical projects, including creating schematics, grid layouts, power systems, lighting and protection.
• Assist with CAD setup and project requirements.
• Prepare engineering drawings from rough sketches using CAD software.
• Produce drawing and design layouts within budgeted hours.
• Refine rough sketches and redlines for ongoing projects.
• Incorporate project criteria and schedules into electrical design.
• Organize and maintain revisions of drawings and plots.
• Perform design tasks and ensure compliance with standards.
