Job summary

Coach Across America is seeking a Program Coordinator in Washington, DC to support AmeriCorps youth programming with boxing, wellness, and education initiatives. You will assist with enrollment, coordinate athletic and education activities, and help recruit volunteers while working closely with partner sites.

Expect a half-time service term (900 hours) Aug 2026–Aug 2027, with a total living allowance of $12,150 and an education award upon completion. This role is on-site at Midtown Youth Academy.

  • 18 years of age or older (17 with written parental/guardian consent).

About Coach Across America

Founded in 2010, Coach Across America is a national service organization focused on the power of coaches to transform the lives of our nation's most vulnerable youth, and the communities they live in, through sports. Coach Across America partners with local nonprofits, schools, and sports organizations to support and train AmeriCorps coaches for a one-year service term in underserved communities.

What You'll Do

As a Coach Across America AmeriCorps member, you will serve at the Midtown Youth Academy, a non-profit organization in Washington, DC that promotes education and wellness through boxing. You will engage with youth directly as a coach-mentor and support program coordination, with an emphasis on growing girls’ engagement. You will receive sports-based youth development training to positively impact youth mental and physical well-being and join a welcoming AmeriCorps cohort.

AmeriCorps Service Term: Half-time role (900 hours to complete between August 2026 and August 2027)

Living Allowance: $12,150.00 (total, paid biweekly)

Education Award: $3,697.50 (upon successful completion of service hours)

Expected Hours Per Week: Approximately 20 hours per week (Monday-Friday afternoons)

Primary Location: 5332 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20011

Coach Role and Responsibilities
Youth intake coordination
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the enrollment process for youth participants.
  • Develop and distribute enrollment materials and support families with enrollment steps.
Athletic program
  • Coordinate athletic programming, including boxing and running as well as breathing and wellness.
  • Serve as a coach-mentor for youth in athletic programs and collaborate with volunteers who deliver programming.
  • Assist in establishing athletic and wellness-based partnerships and liaise with partners.
Education program
  • Assist with the development, management, and implementation of an effective education program for youth, including:
    • After- school tutoring curriculum in line with the organization's TEAM concept; test preparation/tutoring, entrepreneurship, arts and technology, and mentorship.
  • Assist in establishing academic-based partnerships and liaise with partners.
Volunteer coordination
  • Assist with the development and coordination of volunteer database, including:
  • Ensure each program has adequate volunteers and is implemented according to established curriculums and policies.
  • Assist with communication and promotion of programs, events, and partnerships to garner volunteer interest.
Anticipated Schedule
  • Monday through Thursday from 3:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Fridays, flexible schedule (four hours)
  • Service assignments are due on Mondays
  • Attend approved partner events in lieu of scheduled onsite and remote hours.
Additional AmeriCorps Requirements
  • Completion of the minimum required 900 hours of service and training by the last day of the coach contract
  • Attendance at the CAA Coach Orientation at the start of the service term
  • Submission of accurate bi-weekly timesheets, approved by the Host Site Supervisor
  • Participation in AmeriCorps National Days of Service and community events
  • Attendance at all CAA trainings, communities of learning, and special initiatives
  • Completion of all data collection activities as directed by the CAA Program Director, including youth rosters, attendance records, and participant surveys
Uniform Policy

Coaches must wear Coach Across America branded gear provided by CAA, including items bearing the AmeriCorps logo, during all direct service sessions and program events. Coaches will also wear WAFC-branded items as provided.

Required:
  • U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
  • 18 years of age or older (17 with written parental/guardian consent)
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, or currently working toward one
Additionally:
  • Must be able to support partner events on Friday or throughout the week if scheduled in advance.
  • Must be able to participate in athletic programs with youth.
  • Productive and positive interpersonal relationship capabilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop collaborative solutions positively and efficiently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to listen well, solve problems, and collaborate effectively.
  • Computer skills. Regular use of MS Office Suite.
  • Interest in and commitment to wellness and education for youth.
  • Ability to connect well with diverse individuals and balance a variety of needs.
