Job summary

Coach Across America is seeking AmeriCorps members to coach teams and/or programs for youth ages elementary through high school in the Baltimore area. You will receive training to become a Sports Based Youth Development Coach and help improve youth mental and physical well-being.

Responsibilities include supporting PE and recess activities, coaching teams, working with students individually or in small groups, and collaborating with school staff to foster safe, engaging play spaces and positive

Qualifications

• Experience working with youth, sports, or both is preferred.
• Must be able to work with diverse youth populations.
• Commitment to safety and positive youth development is essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist PE teacher in class lessons.
• Facilitate a structured recess.
• Head coach or assistant coach a sports team.
• Work with identified students one-on-one and in small groups.
• Develop sport skills by student level and encourage activity.
• Implement a behavior management system for students.
• Develop social-emotional skills using evidence-based strategies.
• Collaborate with program or school staff to collect surveys and roster information.
• Create an engaging, safe, and healthy play space for youth to thrive.
• Encourage participants to gain life skills through sport.
• Perform data collection activities as directed by the Program Manager.
• Act as a role model, gaining respect and trust of the community and youth served.
