Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher required for teaching certification in Michigan.
• Valid Michigan elementary or secondary teaching certificate.
• Endorsements in CI/EI/LD at the middle school level with additional endorsement in English/Language Arts, Math, or K-8 All Subjects.
• Familiarity with IEPs and Behavior Support Plans.
• Experience in educating students who qualify for special education services.
• Knowledge of state, local and federal regulations affecting special education.
• Strong organization and time management skills.
• Lifelong learner with a collaborative spirit.

Responsibilities

• Build trust and confidence with students.
• Teach district approved curriculum.
• Plan curriculum, lessons and special education programs and teaching methods.
• Maintain the classroom environment for organization and presentation; encourage good citizenship.
• Instruct individuals and groups on special education skill areas.
• Monitor student progress in and outside of the classroom.
• Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by newsletters, notes, phone calls, email, conferences, etc.
• Prepare report cards, educational records, IEPC forms, classroom observation records and other forms.
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities.
• Participate in curriculum development programs and faculty committees.
• Participate in building special education committee meetings.
• Administer testing evaluations.
• Read and comply with Marshall Public Schools policies and the district mission.
• Meet contractual obligations as outlined in the Marshall Teachers’ Association Master Agreement.
• Demonstrate commitment to the district's mission and collaborative culture.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal.
