Position: Teacher Assistant / Self Contained Special Education Teacher Assistant

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Implement instructional plans as determined by licensed teachers and therapists.
  2. Apply lesson modifications as directed and modify as needed to meet learning objectives. Prompt, cue, and redirect students to stay on task.
  3. Administer curriculum-based tests and quizzes.
  4. Ensure students record assignments, have correct materials, and complete assignments appropriately.
  5. Take notes of curriculum presented during class as needed.
  6. Provide physical care: diapering, toileting, feeding, reinforcing adaptive PE/motor activities, and assisting with hygiene and daily living skills.
  7. Observe, document, and reinforce appropriate student behaviors; communicate with teachers and facilitators.
  8. Participate in weekly team meetings to review student progress and plan lessons.
  9. Assist with non-instructional activities and maintain safety and order in common areas and during field trips.
  10. Escort students to and from buses or cars as required.
  11. Record and update student progress towards IEP goals.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic arithmetic skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and software (e.g., Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish supportive relationships with students with special needs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and others.
  • Ability to stay calm and adapt in stressful situations.
  • Strong organizational and independent work skills.
  • Physical ability to lift students and perform daily living assistance tasks.
Minimum Education and Certifications:
  • At least 19 years old.
  • One of the following:
    • Associate’s degree or higher
    • 60 semester hours of coursework
    • High School Diploma or GED + 460+ on ETS Parapro
    • High School Diploma or GED + ACT Workkeys scores of 4 in Applied Math and Reading

Additional Details:
  • Full-time, 35 hours/week.
  • Salary: $17.77 - $19.03 per hour.
  • Benefits per IPCA contract: IPCA Contract 2022-26
  • Travel between schools may be required.
  • Work environment includes standard school facilities and outdoor activities.
