Job summary

George Washington Carver is seeking a dedicated Special Education Paraeducator/Instructional Assistant for a middle school in Waterloo, IA. You will assist with instruction, monitor student progress, and provide supervision and administrative support to create a productive classroom environment.

The role requires collaboration with teachers, participation in IEP/behavior meetings when applicable, and adherence to district policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• NCLB compliance – 60 college credit hours, associate’s degree, generalist or specialist para educator license OR district competency test.
• Computer/technology training as required for the position.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
• Actively participate in professional development.
• Provide additional support to students based on individual need.
• Participate in IEP meetings and behavior intervention meetings when applicable.
• Monitor, observe and report progress of students in behavior, academics or health-related issues.
• Follow health and safety practices and regulations.
• Transports students as needed (primarily TAP Para).
• Direct tasks and supervise groups to maximize instructional time.
• De-escalate student behaviors to maximize instructional time.
