Job summary

Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) seeks a part-time, temporary Middle School Program Facilitator to support grades 6–8 in Harlem. The role is in-person at PAL Harlem with two Harlem-based partner schools, offering structured Fall and Spring programming.

The position runs Sept 2026–May 2027 with up to 11 hours weekly, plus pre-approved travel or events. Compensation is $25/hour, with paid orientation and required training in September 2026.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth Development, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
• 1–3 years of teaching or direct experience with middle school-aged youth (approximately ages 11–14).
• Experience facilitating project-based or experiential learning.
• Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
• Highly organized and proficient with Google Workspace.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate engaging, age-appropriate lessons and adapt instruction to students' developmental needs.
• Support HEAF Achieve and HEAF Inspire through lesson prep, facilitation, and supervision.
• Foster an inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity and participation.
• Build positive relationships with middle school students in individual and group settings.
• Incorporate hands-on and real-world learning experiences.
• Monitor student engagement and progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Complete weekly administrative tasks using HEAF's systems and communicate with program leadership.
• Chaperone students during off-site programming and field experiences.

Position Overview

The Middle School Program Facilitator supports the academic, social-emotional, and personal growth of students in grades 6-8 through engaging instruction, relationship-building, and program implementation across HEAF Achieve and HEAF Inspire. The facilitator supports lesson delivery, program logistics, student records, family communication, field experiences, and administrative needs.

• Part-Time, Temporary; In Person

Contract Term

• September 2026-May 2027 (academic year). Active programming schedules follow HEAF's Fall and Spring calendars.

Orientation

• Paid orientation and required pre-program training in September 2026.
• Orientation is paid at a flat rate of $50.

Weekly Hours

• Up to 11 hours per week, plus only pre-approved additional hours for required trips, workshops, events, or meetings. Compensation applies only to hours worked and does not cover school/program breaks.

Schedule

• Core Fall schedule includes Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 5:00-7:00 PM at PAL Harlem, plus programming at up to two Harlem-based middle-school partners. Fall programming: October 6-December 16, 2026. Spring 2027 programming dates and weekly schedule will be confirmed before the Spring semester. Additional program, trip, workshop, or event coverage may be scheduled with advance notice.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate engaging, age-appropriate lessons and adapt instruction to students' developmental and learning needs.
• Support HEAF Achieve and HEAF Inspire through lesson preparation, facilitation, classroom management, setup, student supervision, family communication, and outreach.
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity, collaboration, confidence, and active participation.
• Build positive relationships with middle school students in one-on-one and group settings.
• Incorporate hands-on and real-world learning experiences.
• Monitor student engagement and progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Complete weekly administrative tasks using HEAF's check-in and tracking systems.
• Maintain ongoing communication with program leadership regarding student progress, curriculum implementation, and program needs.
• Chaperone students during off-site programming and educational field experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Youth Development, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field; graduate students are encouraged to apply.
• 1-3 years of teaching or direct experience with middle school-aged youth (approximately ages 11-14).
• Experience facilitating project-based, inquiry-based, or experiential learning.
• Strong classroom management, relationship-building, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proficient with Google Workspace.
• Ability to work collaboratively and promote HEAF's mission and educational philosophy.
• Ability and willingness to commit to the full academic-year contract term.
