Job Description

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Job Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the subject and level assigned
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of the core academic subject assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements, with written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons accommodating different student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to TEA, board policies, and regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and materials reflecting students' learning needs.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results for planning.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula per IEP guidelines.
  • Coordinate with staff to set instructional goals and methods.
  • Supervise teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Integrate technology to enhance teaching and learning.
Student Growth and Development
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model supporting the district's mission.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a conducive learning environment appropriate for students' developmental levels.
  • Manage student behavior per the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Ensure safety precautions for students and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials and equipment.
Communication
  • Maintain open communication through conferences with parents, students, and staff.
  • Foster professional relationships with colleagues and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills in all interactions.
