Job Summary

The Music Teacher is responsible for instructing students in the fundamental principles of music and musicianship skills, such as music theory, notation, and appreciation in Choral and Instrumental performance. This role includes preparing and directing school ensembles for public performances, developing liturgical programs, and collaborating with other teachers on events. The teacher will also recognize musical talent in students and encourage further musical opportunities, including participation in clinics and auditions for advanced groups like the All-State Band and Choir.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and instrumental and choral music, with a focus on Catholic heritage.
• Plan a balanced music program and organize daily class time for preparation, rehearsal, and instruction, using age-appropriate repertoire.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, adapting the curriculum to meet individual student needs.
• Manage the storage and use of school-owned property; make minor instrument repairs and request repairs as needed.
• Coordinate with school administration to provide musical programs for school productions and civic events.
• Supervise students in extracurricular activities.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Passion for working with youth to foster the school's mission, vision, and values.
• Classroom management skills.
• Knowledge of music, music theory, and appreciation of music as part of culture.
• Proficiency with email, calendar, office software, and music software skills are a plus.
• Strong interpersonal, written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.

Credentials And Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Music Education.
• Teacher Certification with the State of Nebraska or ability to reciprocate from another state.
• Participation in professional Music Educators Associations is preferred.
• Valid driver's license required for attending meetings and conferences.
