Summary Description

Green Acres School is seeking a full-time middle school math and engineering teacher to join our dynamic staff community for the 2026–2027 school year. The successful candidate will have an approach to the discipline that encourages a high degree of math fluency and problem solving by balancing an established and successful scope and sequence with interesting and engaging projects. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of how math creates models of our world, and they will incorporate that understanding by teaching math not just as abstract problems and theory, but also as it explains and illustrates the world around us. The successful candidate will have the capacity to meet the needs of a range of learners.

Using a structured, comprehensive math program, we aim to build strong foundational skills and conceptual understanding. Beginning in 7th and 8th grades, we offer algebra I and, as appropriate, geometry for advanced students.

Our Middle School math teacher also serves as an advisor, supporting students’ social-emotional growth and acting as liaisons between families and the school. In addition to teaching math, this teacher will teach an engineering elective, guiding students through hands‑on experiences that explore the work of engineering, the engineering design process, and how to creatively solve complex problems.

Responsibilities
Teaching
  • Design and implement engaging, inquiry-based units and lessons in math for one section of 5th, 6th, and 7th grade with about a 1:14 ratio
  • Design and implement an engineering elective for grades 6-8 which is designed around various STEAM projects.
  • Encourage critical thinking and a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives and narratives.
  • Integrate project-based learning and experiential opportunities into the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
  • Use a variety of assessment tools to support and measure student growth.
  • Create a classroom environment that celebrates diversity, promotes equity, and supports the social-emotional development of Middle School students.
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Participate in school life beyond the classroom (e.g., advisory, field trips, community events).
  • Core Middle School teachers accompany students as a chaperone on overnight trips of 3–5 days once a year.
Leadership
  • Models professionalism in the classroom and amongst colleagues and families
  • Positively represents the Green Acres community
  • Is collaborative and models lifelong learning
Additional Responsibilities (as Appropriate)
  • Committees
  • School functions, such as: admission open houses; plays and sporting events; Back-to-School Night, etc.
  • In-service attendance and teacher training
  • Supervise students during assigned duty times (e.g., before school, during lunch, recess, and after school)
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in math, education, or related field; master’s preferred.
  • Teaching experience with Middle School students, ideally in a progressive or independent school setting.
  • Deep knowledge of math content and progressive teaching methodologies.
  • Strong classroom management skills centered on mutual respect and student autonomy.
  • Commitment to anti-bias education and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Enthusiasm for working in a collaborative and reflective professional culture.
  • Possess strong technology skills to effectively utilize digital tools and platforms in their teaching and classroom management, including use of Blackbaud for educational and administrative purposes.
