Job summary

The Academies of Math and Science (AMS) in Tucson, AZ is seeking an 8th Grade English Language Arts Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. Start ASAP at the MASSA Campus (434 W Lerdo Rd).

You will deliver standards-aligned ELA instruction, build literacy skills, and use data to guide interventions to help scholars prepare for high school. Ideal candidates hold a related bachelor's degree or AZ teaching certification, have 3+ years of K–12 teaching experience, and demonstrate classroom

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Secondary Education, Elementary Education, or a relevant content area (one of the listed options)
  • Valid Arizona teaching certification in a relevant subject area
  • Minimum of three (3) years of K–12 teaching experience
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management skills
  • Pass required background checks and obtain an IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Show commitment to serving Title I and multilingual communities
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and a data-driven instructional mindset
  • Exhibit collaboration, professionalism, and initiative in a team-based environment

Responsibilities

  • Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned English Language Arts instruction aligned to AMS curriculum frameworks.
  • Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, informational text, argumentative and narrative writing, grammar, vocabulary, and speaking and listening skills.
  • Differentiate instruction to support students performing above and below grade level.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to drive instructional planning and targeted interventions.
  • Prepare students for high school-level literacy expectations through rigorous instruction and critical thinking.
  • Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
  • Implement PBIS and preventative intervention strategies.
  • Support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
  • Create an inclusive classroom that encourages student voice, collaboration, and respectful discussion.
  • Participate in weekly professional development and professional learning communities.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams and instructional leaders to continuously improve teaching practices.
  • Contribute to school-wide systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress.
  • Lead parent-teacher conferences and maintain strong home-school partnerships.

Compensation Range: $44,770.00 - $50,550.80 (DOE)

Position Summary

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.

AMS is seeking a passionate, data-driven 8th Grade English Language Arts Teacher to deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction while building strong literacy, analytical thinking, communication, and writing skills. The ideal candidate is committed to fostering a love of reading and writing while preparing scholars for high school through engaging, evidence-based instruction.

Key Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Education, English, Secondary Education, Elementary Education, or a relevant content area)

OR

OR

  • Minimum of three (3) years of K–12 teaching experience
