Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Head Coach for the Middle School Girls Soccer Team.
  • Plan, organize, and lead all practices, matches, and team activities.
  • Teach fundamental and intermediate soccer skills, including dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, defending, positioning, and tactical decision‑making.
  • Develop age-appropriate training sessions that support individual skill development and team growth.
  • Promote teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, resilience, and a strong sense of commitment among student‑athletes.
  • Ensure the safety and well‑being of all participants during practices, matches, and team travel.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging team culture that supports student confidence and character development.
  • Collaborate with the Athletics Department regarding scheduling, communication, and program development.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with students, families, and school staff.
  • Support and uphold Canterbury School's mission, values, and community standards.
  • Assist with equipment management, uniform distribution, field setup, and match‑day preparation.
  • Encourage academic balance, personal responsibility, and respectful conduct among student‑athletes.

Position Summary

Canterbury School seeks a dynamic, organized, and student-centered Girls Soccer Coach to lead the Middle School Girls Soccer program. Grounded in Canterbury's mission to maximize the potential of young people, the coach will create a challenging, supportive, and developmentally appropriate environment where students grow as athletes, teammates, and individuals. The program will emphasize technical skill development, teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and confidence while fostering a lifelong appreciation for athletics and healthy competition.

The coach will work collaboratively with the Athletics Department to build a positive and competitive program that develops student-athletes both on and off the field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Head Coach for the Middle School Girls Soccer Team.
  • Plan, organize, and lead all practices, matches, and team activities.
  • Teach fundamental and intermediate soccer skills, including dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, defending, positioning, and tactical decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior coaching experience within a school or club soccer program.

  • Knowledge of middle school athletics philosophy and student development.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification.
Time Commitment
  • Seasonal position from April through the first part of May, aligned with the Middle School athletics calendar.
  • Practices held after school multiple days per week.
  • Occasional evening commitments for matches
