Carden Conejo School in Thousand Oaks, CA is seeking an Elementary/Middle School Soccer Coach to create a safe, positive, competitive environment for student-athletes. Under the supervision of the Athletic Director, you will teach fundamental soccer skills, lead practices, and prepare the team for league competition.

Qualifications

• Prior soccer coaching experience at the high school level or above.
• Prior soccer playing experience at the high school level or above.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification required prior to the start of practices.
• Must complete all school-required background screening and Live Scan prior to employment.

The Elementary/Middle School Soccer Coach plays a vital role in creating a safe, positive, competitive, and engaging environment for student-athletes participating in the school's athletics program. Working under the supervision of the Athletic Director, the Soccer Coach is responsible for teaching fundamental soccer skills, leading practices, preparing the team for competition, and fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, have a strong knowledge of soccer, and bring enthusiasm, leadership, and positive energy to the program. Coaches are responsible for helping student-athletes develop their athletic abilities while emphasizing respect, accountability, discipline, teamwork, and a love for the game.

The coach will help ensure every player feels included, challenged, and supported throughout the season while maintaining a safe, organized, and competitive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and lead organized, age-appropriate soccer practices.
• Teach fundamental soccer skills, including dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, defending, positioning, and ball control.
• Introduce and develop age-appropriate offensive and defensive concepts, formations, and game strategy.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team activities to ensure safety and positive participation.
• Develop practice plans that emphasize technical skill development, teamwork, conditioning, game awareness, and sportsmanship.
• Encourage teamwork, inclusion, and positive communication among players.
• Foster a culture of accountability, discipline, respect, effort, and character.
• Provide positive coaching, constructive feedback, and encouragement to athletes of all skill levels.
• Prepare the team for league competition while maintaining an engaging and developmentally appropriate environment.
• Communicate effectively with the Athletic Director, parents, and student-athletes regarding schedules, expectations, and team updates.
• Ensure all soccer equipment is properly maintained, organized, and used safely.

Program Support

• Collaborate with the Athletic Director to support the vision and continued growth of the athletics program.
• Assist with organizing practices, game-day logistics, team equipment, and field setup.
• Promote proper warm-ups, conditioning, injury prevention, hydration, and safe participation.
• Model professionalism, integrity, sportsmanship, and positive leadership on and off the field.
• Help build and promote the soccer program while creating an enjoyable, developmental, and competitive experience for all student-athletes.

Staff Collaboration

• Communicate effectively with fellow coaches, the Athletic Director, and school staff regarding athlete needs and schedule adjustments.
• Maintain consistent expectations for athlete behavior, effort, attendance, and participation.
• Participate in staff meetings and required training sessions.
• Work collaboratively with the Athletic Director regarding player development, team organization, and overall program goals.

Safety & Professional Expectations

• Maintain continuous awareness of student-athlete safety and supervision requirements.
• Follow all school athletics policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Serve as a positive role model through professional behavior, communication, sportsmanship, and leadership.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming practice and game environment.
• Demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and a strong commitment to the well-being of student-athletes.
• Communicate respectfully and professionally with parents by providing brief updates when appropriate, answering questions, and directing concerns or important information to the Athletic Director to ensure consistent and clear communication.

• Must successfully complete all school-required background screening, fingerprinting (Live Scan), and child safety requirements prior to employment.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to stand, walk, run, and actively participate in soccer-related activities.
• Ability to supervise children in outdoor athletic environments.
• Occasionally required to lift or move equipment and materials weighing up to 30 lbs.
• Ability to move safely across grass fields, turf, and other uneven outdoor surfaces.

Dates

• Practices are held 2-3 days per week from 3:15 PM-4:30 PM, with games scheduled throughout the season.
• Compensation is dependent on experience and qualifications.
• There is an opportunity to coach two soccer seasons during the 2026-2027 school year:
  • Winter - Girls Soccer: November 17, 2026-February 25, 2027
  • Spring - Boys Soccer: March 1, 2027-May 20, 2027
• Candidates may be considered for one or both seasons based on availability and program needs.
