Middle School Fifth and Sixth Grade Educator - English/Language Arts

Augusta Preparatory Day School seeks a passionate and energetic educator to join the English Department and a strong Middle School team as a fifth and sixth grades English teacher. Interested applicants should be highly reflective and solution-oriented educators who build effective relationships with all stakeholders; who learn from and support colleagues in a positive, collaborative team environment; and who foster in students an excitement, appreciation for and understanding of the learning process. Hired applicant begins August 1, 2025 as a full-time exempt employee who reports to the Middle School Head and works closely with the English Department Chair and middle school team.

Essential Functions:

• Work closely with a team of lower, middle and upper school educators to live the APDS mission.
• Teach five sections of 5th and 6th grade English.
• Serve in at least one co-curricular capacity (team coach, organization sponsor, etc.).
• Engage with students in between classes, during lunch duty, and during other school functions to supervise and build relationships.
• Support students beyond the school day (attend plays, athletic and scholastic events, competitions, etc.).
• Attend a yearly 2-night, 3-day student retreat to build peer-to-peer and student-to-faculty relationships.
• Communicate effectively (and proactively when possible) with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Connect with professional learning communities and engage in frequent professional development.

Qualifications:

• Possess a strong understanding of and desire to work with the adolescent learner.
• Be willing to develop relationships with colleagues, students, and families.
• Have strong written and oral communication skills.
• Possess proven skills in the position’s essential functions.
• Hold a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in a related field.
