Crystal Lake School District 47 currently has an opening for a Middle School Dual Language Teacher. The goal of this position is to deliver the curriculum in both English and Spanish to second language learners while using various assessment measures. The candidate will teach in a two-way immersion classroom.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Plan, teach, and assess all curricular areas as outlined by the Board of Education.
2. Teach each lesson in Spanish or English, depending on grade level and language allocation.
3. Have a deep understanding of second language acquisition.
4. Apply best practices for first and second language learners.
5. Adapt curriculum and language level to meet individual student needs.
6. Promote cultural awareness through extracurricular family activities.
7. Identify student needs and collaborate with professional staff to address learning, behavioral, and health issues.
8. Maintain organized records and report on student progress in both languages.
9. Maintain high standards of classroom behavior and cultural sensitivity.
10. Administer assessments like ACCESS for ELLs, MAP, PARCC, and others as required.
11. Communicate effectively with parents in both English and Spanish through conferences and other methods.
12. Translate orally and in writing between languages.
13. Collaborate with grade-level teams and district-wide dual language teams to develop curriculum and achieve program goals.
14. Participate in curriculum development, materials selection, and committee work.
15. Enhance professional skills through district in-service and other growth opportunities.

Skills and Experience Required

1. Valid Illinois Professional Educator License and Educator License with Stipulations-Transitional Bilingual Educator.
2. Endorsements: Elementary Education (K-9), Bilingual Education Teacher – Spanish, MS Endorsement in Language Arts and Social Studies.
3. Fluency and literacy in English and Spanish.
4. Knowledge of elementary curriculum and second language acquisition.
5. Support the dual language program and its philosophies.
