Job Description

Under the immediate direction of the Building Principal, the Dual Language Teacher is responsible for the academic, social, and psychological growth of students in the classroom. The teacher collaborates with school personnel, parents, and community agencies to provide quality instructional programs and performs other duties related to this position.

Job Summary

We seek a passionate Spanish/English Dual Language Teacher who is committed to effective instruction and student learning using best practices in dual language education. The ideal candidate demonstrates dedication to the goals and research-backed effectiveness of the dual language program.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide explicit language arts instruction in both program languages based on language-specific standards.
  • Deliver standards-based academic content in both languages.
  • Use appropriate separation of languages to promote high language acquisition levels.
  • Implement sheltered instruction and other strategies for bilingual learners.
  • Ensure equitable participation and promote sociocultural competence among students.
  • Foster metalinguistic awareness and leverage bilingualism through cross-linguistic strategies.
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of the dual language program.
  • Work cooperatively with diverse students and their families.
  • Coordinate instruction with support staff.
  • Design engaging learning experiences and utilize available instructional time effectively.
  • Use multiple assessment measures in both languages to inform instruction.
  • Incorporate technology to enhance bilingual instruction.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials tailored to student needs.
  • Maintain standards of student behavior conducive to learning.
  • Assess and report on student progress, maintaining appropriate records.
  • Create an attractive, functional learning environment in both languages.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Administer mandated examinations and perform attendance and business services as required.
Qualifications
  • Valid Illinois PEL with general education (K-9) and/or early childhood and bilingual endorsement (Spanish).
  • High fluency in spoken and written Spanish.
  • Knowledge of bilingual education strategies and curriculum design.
  • Commitment to rigorous dual language education and data-driven instruction.
