Job description

Guzman Energy | Denver, CO | Full-Time, In-Person
About Guzman Energy

Guzman Energy is a wholesale power provider dedicated to revolutionizing the energy landscape through innovative solutions and community partnerships. Serving cooperatives, municipalities, and tribes across North America, and data centers, hospitals, and large loads in those communities, we combine entrepreneurial spirit with deep industry expertise to create value in complex energy markets. Our team of approximately 80 professionals is committed to providing competitive pricing and reliable service for our customers.

Position Overview

The Mid-Marketing Manager sits between Guzman's trading desk and its cooperative, municipal, tribal, and commercial/industrial customer base, focused on acquiring and structuring short-term (under three years) retail supply deals. This spans the same product set Guzman uses to build its long-term wholesale partnerships - physical and financial power, capacity, transmission, ancillary services, and renewable energy attributes (RECs) - applied to a shorter, more tactical window and structured as index, fixed-price, block-and-shape, or full-requirements deals. Pricing these opportunities requires a working feel for basis, congestion, and weather-driven load shape across Guzman's footprint in the West (WECC) and its growing presence in SPP territory. This role cultivates, builds, and maintains relationships with regional counterparties, brokers, and consultants to identify mutually beneficial short-term commercial contracts. Once a deal is signed, the role continues as the customer's point of contact for renewals, billing resolution, and upselling additional products such as RECs, ancillary services, or storage-backed supply, while coordinating with trading, credit, and scheduling to ensure new load is properly priced, risk-managed, and registered with the relevant ISO/RTO. Throughout, the role tracks competitive positioning and pipeline performance and ensures all sales practices comply with state and federal consumer-protection rules.

Key Responsibilities
Manage evaluation, analysis, and approval process for all inbound, short-term opportunity RFP responses
  • Find opportunities to both buy and sell short-term energy and capacity for the company, with a primary focus on ensuring all customer commitments are met
  • Filter short-term RFPs into trading, mid-marketing, or commercial opportunities
  • Analyze and respond to all short-term RFPs that fit into company goals and are identified as mid-marketing opportunities
  • Track these deals and provide a summary of planned, active, and closed mid-marketing deals for use by other departments and the executive team
  • Develop all necessary documentation for deal approval to include term sheets, PPAs, Investment Committee Memos, etc.
Develop Guzman Energy’s Mid-Marketing strategy that takes full advantage of existing relationships, resources, and positions while also expanding connection with industry to generate new short-term opportunities in support of Guzman’s strategy and emerging needs
  • Create a framework for assessing and sorting deals into trading, mid-marketing, or commercial opportunities. Incorporate this framework into existing company processes for business execution
  • Develop and execute a company strategy for mid-marketing opportunities to include new regions, markets, customers, and products
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive list of counterparties that are willing to transact on short-term energy/capacity products
  • Attend relevant conferences and meetings to build a mid-marketing network
  • Respond to requests for information about Guzman Energy as needed to develop new relationships and maintain existing contacts
Maintain a regional view in support of market intelligence
  • Track competitor offers, pricing benchmarks, and win/loss trends among power marketers and suppliers serving cooperatives, municipalities, and tribal utilities across Guzman's territories
  • Monitor forward price curves, basis differentials, and locational price trends across the West (WECC) and SPP to sharpen mid-marketing pricing and strategy
  • Track resource adequacy, capacity market, and transmission congestion developments that affect short-term supply economics and hedging costs
  • Monitor weather, hydro conditions, and renewable output trends that drive short-term price volatility across Guzman’s core markets
  • Report pipeline, bookings, margin performance, and market share to sales leadership and the executive team
  • Monitor regulatory and market-design changes affecting retail choice states, evolving ISO/RTO structures, and the governance and regulatory considerations specific to cooperative, municipal, and tribal counterparties
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of professional experience; prior energy industry experience a plus but not required for the right candidate
  • Exceptional organizational skills - able to manage multiple deals, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously without dropping the ball
  • Strong written communication skills; able to draft clear, concise, and professional documents including memos, proposals, and correspondence
  • High EQ and genuine enjoyment of building relationships and working with diverse people and organizations
  • Self-starter with a proactive mindset - identifies what needs to be done and does it without waiting to be asked
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment where the team moves quickly and accountability is real
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with CRM or deal tracking tools a plus
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in wholesale energy, power marketing, utility procurement, or energy finance
  • Familiarity with cooperative or municipal utility operations, governance, and procurement processes
  • Exposure to RFP processes, contract negotiations, or commercial deal execution in any industry
  • Knowledge of WECC markets, Western energy policy, or data center power procurement
  • Relationship & Network Building - cultivates durable, trust-based relationships with brokers, consultants, and counterparties that translate into a consistent deal pipeline
  • Commercial & Analytical Acumen - evaluates RFPs and deal terms quickly and accurately, balancing margin, risk, and strategic fit
  • Cross-Functional Coordination - works fluidly with trading, credit, scheduling, and legal to move deals from term sheet to signed, registered load
  • Strategic & Market-Oriented Thinking - identifies emerging regions, products, and customer segments ahead of the competition and translates them into an executable plan
  • Clear Communication - produces concise, accurate deal documentation and briefs leadership on pipeline and competitive positioning
  • Integrity & Compliance Mindset - ensures sales practices and contract terms hold up under state and federal consumer-protection scrutiny
  • Adaptability - comfortable operating in a lean, fast-moving organization where priorities shift and ownership extends beyond a narrow job description
Cultural Fit

Guzman Energy is a close-knit team of roughly 80 professionals who move quickly, take ownership, and are motivated by the mission of accelerating the clean energy transition for cooperatives, municipalities, companies, and tribes across North America. The ideal Mid-Marketing Manager is entrepreneurial and resourceful - comfortable building a strategy and network from scratch rather than following an established playbook. They bring the discipline to manage compliance-sensitive customer commitments alongside the flexibility to collaborate daily with trading, credit, scheduling, and executive teams. Success in this role calls for genuine curiosity about regional power markets, persistence in building long-term counterparty relationships, and a collaborative, low-ego style suited to a small company where every contribution is visible.
