Job description

Role: Manager, Short-Term Power and Capacity

Industry: Wholesale power supply

Location: Denver or Boulder, Colorado

Comp: $150,000 base, annual performance bonus

Element Six is partnering with a specialist wholesale power provider to add a manager to their commercial team. This is a unique opportunity for someone with trading experience looking to move into a more commercial operations role and spend more time with counterparties.

Reasons to apply:

  • The seat. It sits between the trading desk and the long-term commercial team, focused on supply deals inside three years. If you have built a trading foundation and now want more focus overseeing the entire commercial cycle.
  • End-to-end RFP ownership. From initial sourcing, structuring and management through to the commercial relationship once the deal is signed.
  • The demand is already there. You start by handling inbound flow. Growth is in outbound work and opportunities that aren't reaching the business because those conversations aren't happening.
  • Significant growth. No one on the team is focusing on this, so the first year is as much about building it as executing within it.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Originate short-term energy and capacity opportunities across the West (WECC) and SPP.
  • Build and maintain a network of counterparties, brokers, and consultants that generates consistent deal flow.
  • Evaluate and respond to inbound short-term RFPs, and build the framework for sorting them into trading, short-term or long-term commercial opportunities.
  • Structure deals across physical and financial power, capacity, transmission, ancillaries and RECs.
  • Develop the strategy to expand short-term RFP opportunities across new regions and markets
  • Own the customer relationship after signing, covering renewals, billing resolution and upselling.
  • Coordinate with trading, credit, scheduling and legal to get new load priced, risk-managed and registered.
  • Produce term sheets, PPAs and Investment Committee memos, and report pipeline and margin performance to leadership.

Requirements:

  • 3–7 years of relevant experience across Power and Energy working on RFPs
  • A combination of trading/commercial experience ideally at a Trading house/ IPP or Coop
  • Comfort with basis, congestion, and weather-driven load shape across markets.
  • Preference for the relationship side and comfortable presenting at conferences and in front of partners.
  • Existing relationships in WECC/CAISO/SPP are a real advantage.
  • Self-starting and proactive

This probably isn’t for you

  • If you want to stay on the desk and trade
  • If long-dated PPAs are where you want to spend your time
  • If you need an established playbook and a defined territory before you can start
  • If you want inbound flow handed to you and nothing else
