The Boeing Company in North Charleston, SC is seeking a Mid-Level Structures Design Engineer for the Wing & Empennage Life Cycle Product Team. You will develop, integrate and document structural requirements for wing and empennage design and support life cycle activities across engineering, production and suppliers.

Responsibilities include validating designs with analytical and test results, coordinating supplier development and production activities, and advancing new design/analysis

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, or Materials Sciences.
  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with aircraft structural design.

  • Develops, maintains and modifies structural designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Performs, integrates analytical and test results to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.
  • Manages supplier development, test and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.
  • Develops new design/analysis processes and tools to improve the effectiveness, quality and efficiency of the development effort.
  • Investigates emerging technologies to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.

Mid-Level Structures Design Engineer - Wing & Empennage

Company: The Boeing Company 787 Airframe in Boeing Commercial Airplanes is hiring for a Mid-Level (Level 3) Structures Design Engineering for our Wing & Empennage Life Cycle Product Team to work at our North Charleston, SC location. Primary Responsibilities
  • Develops, integrates and documents structural requirements to establish the wing and/or empennage design.
  • Develops, maintains and modifies structural designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience)
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus on Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Aeronautical or Material Sciences)
  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of experience with aircraft structural design
  • 1+ years of experience with design of composite structures
  • Prior experience with aircraft, heavy structures, hardware systems or interiors manufacturing/production systems
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)
  • 5+ years of experience working on wing or empennage structures such as Wing tips, wing leading or trailing edges, wing center section, wing box, wing join, vertical, or horizontal stabilizers
  • Expertise using CATIA and Model Based Definition (MBD) for primary structure design.
  • Experience designing and qualifying composite primary structures, including laminate design, ply-drop strategies, and structural strength considerations
  • Hands on experience with fabrication of metallic and composite structures
  • Part 21 and Part 25 Code of Federal Regulations knowledge and experience interacting with Federal Regulators
